Gravel Cycling along the Verdugos
Share
LA has many amazing gravel options that are easily accessible within the city. On Sunday, we ventured over to the Verdugos. The Verdugos are a separate smaller range, in front of the San Gabriels, surrounded by Burbank, Glendale and Pasadena.
We did an out-and-back route to gain some climbing miles and see some views. Climbed up Chandler Motorway to Verdugo Motorway to Verdugo Peak to Tongva Peak. Saw some lovely views of Burbank, back side of Griffith Park and Downtown LA.
This route is much steeper than starting at the Beaudry side, but has the benefit of getting the climbs out of the way in the early part of the ride. The motorway along the ridge has rolling descents and options for single track side quests. The finish is a great downhill cruise back to the start. Check it out on Ride with GPS.
Trail conditions: hard-packed sandy dirt, occasional drainage ruts and rocks. Very comfortable on 42mm Ultradynamico tires that we stock. If you'd like to get your gravel rig set up or rent a bike for similar adventures, get in touch!
