Mountain Biking along the Backbone Trail

Mountain Biking along the Backbone Trail

Gorgeous spring riding in the canyons above Malibu. We explored an out-and-back sampler of the longer Backbone Trail. The Backbone trail is a real favorite at the shop. Stretching from Point Mugu to Will Rodgers, the trail winds across various canyons along the backside of the Santa Monica Mountains. We parked at Kanan Dume trailhead and ventured out towards Encinal Canyon. Premium California single-track, with creek crossings, wildflower blooms and rolling hills!

Trail Conditions: Dry, lightly sandy. Some chunk, a few rock gardens. Low exposure. Comfortable on hardtails and rideable on rigid frames as well. Some parts overgrown with branches; recommend glasses for eye protection!

What we rode: Steel hardtail MTBs with 29x2.6 tires 🤘 Check out the in-stock State 4130 Trail for similar!
